We are so excited to kick off another year, and there is so much at stake in 2024. While we all take the time to set intentions for our personal lives, we must also turn outward — toward our community, each other, and our future together.
It is an election year, after all, which means we must set intentions to understand the potential impact of what’s on the line for the rights of women and girls across the country.
Women still have a wage gap between us and our male counterparts. Our voices can bring resources to those who need them.
Mothers are punished in the workplace and in their paychecks simply for taking on one of our society’s most important roles. Our voices cannot be silent while this affects those across our communities.
Opportunities and access to higher education are more challenging, and women continue to hold the majority of student loan debt. Our voices can help continue the push to relieve the burden for millions.
Along with our coalition partners, we’ve declared not one more year of women’s inequality can go by. You and the rest of AAUW’s amazing community of members and advocates continue to make a real impact.
Let’s reflect on just a few major accomplishments we achieved together in 2023:
• More than 40,000 members and donors supported AAUW — including nearly 450 college and university members and over 700 branches.
• AAUW’s Lobby Corps resumed visits to Capitol Hill, visiting more than 150 congressional offices to advocate for legislation that uplifts and advances women’s equity and access to opportunity.
• AAUW’s Two-Minute Activist network sent more than 47,000 messages to elected officials in support of key legislation to advance gender equity.
• AAUW celebrated 135 years of fellowships and grants and awarded $6.1 million to 277 awardees, keeping us as the nation’s largest non-institutional funder of women’s graduate-level education.
So, this year, let’s set the right intentions: to keep fighting, educating, and raising our voices in solidarity for women and girls everywhere. We are truly grateful for your commitment, your passion, and the promise of a more equitable future — we can’t do it without you.
In solidarity,
Gloria L. Blackwell
Chief Executive Officer
